Daniel & Pablo farm one hectare of Moscatel de Alejandria organically, practising regenerative agriculture, promoting biodiversity and replanting native trees. Living off the land, with a home built from the red clay of their hills; theirs is an intentional, holistic lifestyle. Presses and fermentation take place mostly outdoors, with the ambient temperatures dictating the pace at which things progress.

Having built their home in 2016, their first vintage together as Chekura was in 2017, once Pablo had decided to downsize from his families 6 hectares to a single hectare to call his and Daniela's. These 50 year old bush vines, planted over granite and red clay have been under regenerative agriculture for nearly 10 years. Work is undertaken in accordance with the biodynamic calendar, and using practices learnt via the JADAM method of organic agriculture. A large amount of their work includes planting up to 100 native trees each year in the surrounding forests in an effort to combat the controversially planted eucalypts, and use these native plants to create organic treatments for the vines.

When they began their journey, Daniela spoke of being the only growers in their region working this way. The use of chemical intervention in agriculture is a systemic problem in Chile, with government organisations actively encouraging their use to a generation of farmer’s including Pablo’s father. With one or two neighbours and peers in the area now treading a similar path to theirs, the pair are optimistic about the future.
