Within Rietsch

New wines from JP Rietsch have just landed!

Visiting Jean-Pierre earlier this year, he'd told us that 2021 had been a year of extremes: an incredibly dry year, but also the most humid year in Mittelbergheim since 1900.

With humidity levels so high, mildew proved quite a struggle for them. Pinot Noir was hit the hardest, with Pinot Gris suffering also.

That said, the fruit that has survived in Mittelbergheim has been of brilliant quality, and the 2021's are particularly striking. We've just received a few cuvees from 2021, along with a handful of the singular 2019's.

Please let us know if you would like any, as quantities are very limited and we are trying to be as fair as possible in getting these out there!

Stein, a south-facing parcel next to Jean Pierre's house is particular in that it has a specific 'oolitic' limestone that Riesling and Pinot Noir love. Pressed directly, aged on the lees for 31 months. No added sulphur.

NEW 2019 Grand Cru Zotzenberg - Riesling

Any grapes that had suffered with mildew were pressed directly, settled and blended back in afterwards. Aged on the lees for seven months, no added sulphur.
