Andi Is Mssing A Disco Ball

We have a very special array of new wines here from Andi Weigand!

Direct from the Keuper slopes of the Iphöfer Kronsberg hill where Andi's vines are located, the 2025 vintage is by Andi's admission, "the best year I've ever had, it feels like the kind of quality and quantity I'd be lucky to get every ten years."

Blessed with warm weather but perfectly-timed rainfall in May, June and mid-August, Andi was thrilled with the fruit he was bringing in to his new winery - its maiden vintage being 2025: "With it being a new winery - all the same barrels and presses of course - I wondered about the potential of the yeasts changing with the environment, but was very pleased to report things went very smoothly! I feel like I'm getting more precise and skilled in working with my fruit every year, and I think a lot of my style comes to picking at the right time for me."

Our first releases from this dream vintage are two wines exclusive to us, and the debut of a new cuvée of Blauer Silvaner!

Visiting in May for our annual blending trip with Andi, we tasted a barrel of Pinot Blanc we loved so much that we asked Andi if he could bottle some directly, and thankfully he obliged. Weissburgunder 2025 is 35 year old Pinot Blanc from a perfect vintage, pressed directly to Stückfass barrel for nine months on the lees and bottled with no additions.

Just Missing A Disco Ball* is our collaborative blend for 2025, assembled by Issy & Bob (Isca) Issy and Richard (Joyce and Salthouse) and Sam (Bambi) who also provided the artwork for the label - it comprises one third old-vine Muller Thurgau, one third Pinot Blanc, and the final third split between two barrels of 50-year-old Silvaner. Fleshy stone fruit cut through with crushed limes and salt, a fine frame of structure, it's another delicious expression of Andi's work, made for drinking and available in keg too!

Andi brought a sneak preview with him last time he visited the UK, so we're pleased to finally release the first edition of Blue: an expression of his young Blauer Silvaner he planted in 2020: "I was keen to have all the colours of Silvaner, we had the more common green & yellow, now we have the blue - I'm still missing the red! But Blue there are only 40 hectares in the world, so its super rare, a natural mutation of blue-skinned Silvaner. 2025 was my first year working with it so I tried a couple of processes, and finding that both were very nice, they worked particularly well together!"

Blue is an equal split of two fermentations of the Blauer Silvaner: one being direct-press and barrel-aged, the other spent two weeks on skins with daily punchdowns before pressing to oak. The wines were assembled and bottled with no additions after 9 months on the lees.

(* The group opinion was that Andi’s new winery was missing a disco ball when we visited to blend. He now has a disco ball in place.Andi is in town next week from Thursday - please drop us a message if you’d like to taste with him!)
