The Fifth Edition

Fergus Clague - Languedoc, Gard

The latest edition from Ferg Clague & family is in!

From their beautiful patch of 85 year old Grenache in the Gard, Ferg tries to make something different each year: "All I know is Grenache, and I'm still trying to find the truest expression of this vineyard. I'll keep experimenting until I feel like we've landed on it!"

This year, offered the use of a nearby melon farmer's walk-in fridge, Ferg did a 10 day cold maceration, followed by a semi-carbonic maceration with plenty of daily remontage- with high sugars, he didn't want the wine struggling through its ferment.

For the fifth edition from @pressinthevines, Chateau de Maman is still very much a vin de soif but Ferg is keen to see how it develops. If we have the willpower to tuck some away...

"It's a beautiful old vine. The fruit this year was super clean and immaculate, it's going to do some interesting things in bottle"

Bottled with no additions in early April, named in homage to Vic's mum Angela who passed away in 2020; Chateau de Maman is packed with strawberry and spice, with a little tannin holding itself in place.
